About this Event
The Japan Chapter of Columbia Venture Community (CVC) is pleased to invite you to a virtual session with Shoko Ugaki, the CEO and Founder, and Takayuki Ueda, Head of Legal at Orange Inc.
About the Company
Founded in 2021, Orange Inc. has focused on its mission of “creating a world where everyone enjoys manga” by developing the manga localization technology for mass localized publishing. Orange Inc. launched "emaqi," a digital manga store in the U.S. and Canada, in September 2024. The company wishes to empower the life of each manga fan, regardless of nationality, age, or gender, through delivering diverse and unique manga. We strive to pass down the joy of manga to future generations.
About the Speakers
- Shoko Ugaki is the CEO and founder of Orange Inc. The company’s mission of creating a world filled with manga fans was inspired by Shoko’s own childhood collection of more than 10,000 volumes – a number which has more than doubled over time. Shoko relocated to the United States in 2024.
- Takayuki Ueda is a business attorney with multifaceted experience, especially in innovative internet services. In 2024, he joined Orange as Head of Legal, leading the company’s legal strategy and supporting its global expansion.

オレンジは2021年の創業以来、大量翻訳出版を実現する「マンガに特化したローカライズ支援ツール」を開発しています。また、作品を世界の人に広めるための電子マンガストア「emaqi」を、2024年9月、北米でサービス提供を開始しました。多種多様でユニークな名作たちを世界に届けることで、国籍・年齢・性別を問わない一人ひとりのユーザーの人生を変える良質な物語との出会いを創出し、日本が生み出した「マンガ」という歴史あるアートフォームを通じた豊かなエンタメ体験を次世代へと残すことに邁進しています。

幼少期から、1万冊を超えるマンガ部屋や最新のゲームハード機に囲まれた実家で過ごし、いまでも1万を超えるマンガをアプリで購入する日常を過ごす。前職の株式会社コロプラでは当時最年少部長として大ヒットゲーム「魔法使いと黒猫のウィズ」「白猫プロジェクト」の事業責任者を歴任し、8年間に渡り業界最前線を経験。その後、2021年にオレンジを設立。2024年にUS移住。
Shoko Ugaki | CEO and Founder of Orange Inc.
Shoko Ugaki is the CEO and founder of Orange Inc. The company’s mission of creating a world filled with manga fans was inspired by Shoko’s own childhood collection of more than 10,000 volumes – a number which has more than doubled over time. Prior to founding Orange in 2021, Shoko served as the youngest division head at COLOPL, where he spent eight years overseeing the launches of regional hits including 魔法使いと黒猫のウィズ (Quiz RPG: The World of Mystic Wiz) and 白猫プロジェクト (White Cat Project). Shoko relocated to the United States in 2024.
植田貴之 | オレンジ株式会社 Head of Legal
インフォテック法律事務所、ウォンテッドリー株式会社、法律事務所LAB-01、UC Berkeley 客員研究員等を経て、2024年2月よりオレンジに参画。弁護士。専門はスタートアップ支援全般。学生時代に野球に打ち込んだ影響で、キャプテン、MAJOR、バトルスタディーズといった野球漫画を愛読。日本が誇るマンガ文化を世界中の人々と共有したいという想いで、オレンジへのジョインを決意。USと東京のオフィスを行き来しつつ双方の業務に従事。
Takayuki Ueda | Head of Legal, Orange Inc.
Takayuki Ueda is a business attorney with multifaceted experience, especially in innovative internet services. He started his professional career at InfoTech Law Offices in Tokyo, specializing in intellectual property cases and handling a broad range of corporate legal affairs. He subsequently joined Wantedly, Inc. (TSE: 3991) as in-house counsel, responsible for establishing the legal department and managing various aspects including product development, corporate governance, and international subsidiary management. In recent years, as a partner at LAB-01 Law Office, he supports startups at various stages and serves as an advisor for startup programs. In 2024, he joined Orange as Head of Legal, leading the company’s legal strategy and supporting its global expansion.
